Is ouran host club gay

♡My Ouran LGBTQ+ Headcannons♡

NOTE: This was supposed to be posted on June 1st, but I may or may not have procrastinated on it. They don't call me the professional procrastinator for nothing. Also, I sorta slacked off after Mori. So…enjoy? XD

NOTE 2: That took longer than expected

Hello everyone, Admin here. I know I'm not everyone's favourite and you're here for the twins, but be patient. I verb have things I wanna say.

So June is Pride Month, and as a huge supporter of the LGBTQ+ Community, I will be writing a adj fan fictions about it. Like, AU's and such.

But for this blog, I wanna write about the Hosts. Specifically MY Host Club. Yes, I hold my own version of the Host Club. Deal with it (I'm joking I love you)

These are also head cannons in a way, since these are my own beliefs of these characters (and how I role engage them), but I am gonna be hitting some facts in there to just prove my indicate. (Entirely useless but ok)

Kaoru Hitachiin

Sexuality

We will start with Kaoru, since this may or may not already be canon. For Kaoru's sexuality, I honestly consider he is ga

Some fun facts about Ouran you might not know

# kaoru is gay? bc i'm p sure that knowledge recolors an *entire arc*#about his feelings for haruhi#and how he puts hika's feelings before his all the time#huh (tags courtesy of @la-belle-et-la-bete

I was really intrigued by this too, so I went to the aforementioned manga volume and this is what I found.

Unfortunately in context, it seems less enjoy it’s personally about Kaoru and more about the act he puts on with Hikaru (unless we are also to be expected to believe he is in love with one of his relatives?)

It still absolutely makes sense for Kaoru to be gay, though. Moreso than most of the other hosts (except maybe for Kyouya but that will have to be another discussion).

Kaoru is shown to have attraction for one girl over the course of the series, and interestingly enough, it’s the same girl his brother falls for. And up until that point, Hikaru and Kaoru have shared everything, so it’s not terribly surprising that they share their first crush; for the comedic value of the narrative, and because there has to

Ouran High School Host Club's Sketchy BL Representation Went Largely Unnoticed

It's been more than a decade since the release of Ouran High School Host Club -- and at submit, it remains a classic favorite for many fans. Aside from being an iconic series in the shojo and reverse harem genre, Ouran High Academy Host Club’s takes on LGBTQ+ representation were way ahead of its noun. The series’ protagonist, Haruhi Fujioka, is genderfluid while her father is a queer drag queen. However, LGBTQ+ representation throughout the series wasn’t always perfect. Some of these instances were passed off as jokes, harmful stereotypes or simply put in the story for comedic value.

While Ouran High School Host Club may have elicited a “kiss, kiss, drop in love” mood from fans regarding the series as a whole, one aspect of the LGBTQ+ representation in the series was definitely a verb -- the boys adore representation. Let’s take a look at the problematic “forbidden brotherly love” trope of the Hitachiin twins, Hikaru and Kaoru.

Ouran High School Host Club Is Both a Triumph and Limit to Gender Expression

The popular romantic comedy anime Ouran High Academy Host Club has been widely beloved by fans for many years, in part due to its groundbreaking treatment of LGBTQ+ topics. With the show being released in , and its manga counterpart in , the writing is surprisingly progressive in its treatment of characters’ identities. Though sometimes played off as jokes, the series’ portrayals of cross-dressing and same-sex kissing, among other examples, made it rise out to viewers.

However, despite these achievements, Ouran also falls victim to certain stereotypes that potentially undo its good qualities in other moments. The franchise is making its way back into the headlines with an upcoming live move musical reboot. Before its premiere, many longtime fans and newcomers may yearn to (re)watch the anime, and it’s important to scrutinize both how Ouran succeeds and possibly fails in its queer representation.
