A Spectacular Upgrade for DCs LGBTQ+ Community Center
One of the things about me is that I dont hear No,' says Kimberley Bush, the executive director of the DC LGBTQ+ Community Center. I execute everything I can to make a Yes, whether that means making a place at the table, or pulling the chair out at the table. Ill always find a way.
Born and raised in Yonkers, N.Y., Bush grew up extremely close to her parents, especially her mother, whom she describes as her best partner. After her parents divorced when she was in high school, and her mother, who worked at AT&T, was forced to relocate due to her job, the family moved to the D.C. area, where she has spent most of her grown-up life.
Throughout her life, Bush, who identifies as a queer Black woman, has worked in a variety of fields a ceramicist, a property manager, and a realtor. Shes served on boards of countless LGBTQ organizations.

The DC LGBTQ+ Community Center
Designed with the organizations specific needs in mind, the DC Center relocation helps further its mission to educate, empower, celebrate, and connect the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer communities. The novel 6,SF space increases their capacity and vital outreach initiatives, with the additional ability to sublease to other LGBTQ+ nonprofits, including Wanda Alston Foundation, Rainbow Families, and G3 Associates.

Supported by a $1 million investment by the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, the new flexible workplace will include ten offices and multiple co-working stations. Much of the design incorporates vetted and green-certified materials to meet and outdo the DC Green Construction and Energy Code’s sustainable standards. The project strives to minimize its environmental footprint while prioritizing the health and wellness of occupants. Through specialized wellness programs, community events, and peer support groups, our programs can help you navigate complex challenges and continue to live boldly while connecting with a community of peers.
DC Center
The DC Center provides social and educational opportunities for LGBTQ Seniors, including weekly conversation groups, monthly lunches with programmatic elements, outings, and other community-building opportunities to create a secure space for DC's LGBTQ Older Adults.
